Over this four-week series, participants will be introduced to recreational kayak gear, clothing, safety essentials, trip planning considerations, and the foundational paddling techniques needed for strokes, draws, and bracing. Participants will also learn and practice both self-rescue and assisted rescues. Each session offers ample time for review, personalized practice, and on-water experience, culminating in a group paddle and an emergency scenario to reinforce confidence and readiness.
No experience necessary. Ages 15+
Course Outline:
- Week 1: An overview designed to build comfort, confidence, and familiarity with recreational kayaking.
- Week 2: A hands-on safety focused week dedicated to practical rescue skills and building confidence in real world situations.
- Week 3: A skill building week focused on refining paddling technique, improving responsiveness, and adding more advanced elements.
- Week 4: A cumulative, real-world practice day that brings together everything learned in Weeks 1–3.
