News: Wallace Township Residents Must Now Pay the Non-Resident Surcharge

The Wallace Township Supervisors have informed us that they no longer value the recreational programming services that DARC provides to the residents of the Downingtown Area School District and have withdrawn from the Consortium.

This will result in residents of Wallace Township paying an additional $15 to $20 per program or camp week that they participate in.

Each municipality in the school district, including Wallace, has signed a contracted agreeing to contribute an annual amount proportionate to the number of their residents that participate in our programs.  This covers the administrative costs of the recreational programming that we do.  By pooling resources the cost of programming is cheaper for residents and requires less municipal employees.

Last year, Wallace Township residents made up 5.2% of all DARC users.  The Township has refused to pay their $4,160 contribution.  This is why the non-resident surcharge is being applied.  If each Wallace resident who had participated in our programs had to pay the non-resident surcharge that would be $5,060 in out-of-pocket costs.

The DARC Board has adopted the position that if Wallace rejoins the Consortium and pays its contribution - all of the non-resident fees will be refunded to the residents.  Please take the time and make your opinion heard to the Wallace Township Board of Supervisors.
